Dear Reader,

It has been another busy week at the club and we enter February with an exciting new addition to the Kyoto Garden (a peacock our chairman has affectionately named Patek). This month we have lots to celebrate between Valentine’s Day, Chinese New Year, and no broken legs from any of our members currently enjoying one of various ski holidays. I would also like to take a moment to extend a big welcome to all of the members who have joined us in the last week, taking us to over 10,000 strong. As always, a giveaway will be coming to commemorate this milestone so keep your eyes peeled.

So, what has been happening in the last week? I’m pleased to announce that The Menu has officially launched, with some of the club’s top picks for February. This will be updated with new items to watch, read, and buy, throughout the month so please keep checking back. The Private Members have been chatting away in The Club rooms, asking for advice on the best Valentine’s gifts for the man who has everything. If you are a particularly good gift buyer or happen to have a spending problem, please be sure to reach out to the member in need (and our financial advisor who takes private appointments on a weekly basis). Social Members are also reminded that they have access to rooms such as ‘General Musings’, ‘Off Topic’ and ‘Questions’, so please don’t be shy in starting conversations with other members. Everyone is mostly very nice (unless you steal their reserved cabana at the Plage Du Barb). There has also been talk of starting a Book Club, so if this is something that interests you, be sure to register your interest (and feedback) here.

For those members without chalets, or friends with chalets, or chalets under renovation because you just must have that new infrared sauna installed, here are some of our top picks to read and watch whilst you’re sans fondue at home.

The backlog of old newsletter issues has finally been uploaded so members have access to a myriad of articles to read to pass the time.

The Holdovers – a frightfully charming film set in a New England boarding school over the Christmas period. Filled with witty dialogue and an unexpected tenderness. A must-see for those wanting a new yearly comfort watch.

Expats – based on the bestselling novel, Nicole Kidman stars in this series that follows the personal and professional lives of a group of expatriates living in Hong Kong. The series is created by Lulu Wang (director of The Farewell).

Griselda – from the creator of Narcos, Griselda is a series about the real-life Griselda Blanco, one of the most prolific drug lords in history. The show is shot in 70s Miami and delivers the perfect combination of glamour and drama. It took Sofia Vergara 10 years to get this series made and we are so glad she finally did.

The Iron Claw – although it’s not released in UK cinemas until the 9th of February, add this to your must-see list immediately. Whilst from the outside it looks like a generic, all-American wrestling film, it is anything but. The Iron Claw tells the real-life story of the Von Erich brothers and how grief, pain, and pressure can have devastating impacts on a family. Zac Efron delivers a career-best that will bring you to tears.

Members are also reminded that membership applications are currently open. If you are looking to apply for Social or Private membership, you are encouraged to do so to make full use of the club and its facilities. We have received numerous enquiries as to the rules around members dogs at the club, and currently, pets need not apply for their own membership. We will of course update you should this rule change.

Until Next Time…
